Unwanted Body Fat
How does the CoolSculpting® treatment work?
A specially designed cooling applicator is applied to the desired area of fat reduction to extract energy (cooling) from the underlying fat tissue without damage to other tissues. The applicator cup uses a gentle vacuum pressure to draw the tissue between the cooling panels. During the procedure, the applicator delivers precisely controlled cooling conditions that target and eliminate fat cells. The cooling triggers a natural process that on average reduces the layer of fat by 25%. During treatment the CoolSculpting® device will continuously monitor the patient and send feedback to the physician. A paging system automatically alerts the physician of any device or patient issues that need attention and notifies them when the CoolSculpting® procedure is complete. The CoolSculpting® procedure causes the body to digest the affected fat cells gradually and results will be seen between two and four months. Because the body process to digest fat cells is gradual, there are no harmful changes in blood lipids or liver function.
Are there side effects after a CoolSculpting® treatment?
After the CoolSculpting® procedure patients typically resume normal activities such as work or exercise. Redness may appear in the treated area, and may last from a few minutes to a few hours. Some localized bruising may occur. Some patients experience a temporary dulling of sensation in the treated area.
