Postpartum Birth Control

It’s a good idea to make a plan for postpartum birth control while you’re still pregnant. Talk with your provider at your next visit about options that fit your goals, your feeding plans, and family plans. You may want a method that you can stop or start easily, or a more long term method like the IUD or implant.

If you are thinking about a permanent birth control option like sterilization, talk to your provider about what the next steps are if you’re sure your family is complete.

No matter what birth control you choose, we recommend waiting to have sex until after the first six weeks post-birth.
