Doctor performing an ultrasound-guided procedure

Did you know that you don’t need to be a tennis player to suffer from "tennis elbow?" And even if you’ve never swung a golf club in your life, you can have "golf elbow." All kinds of patients, both athletes and non-athletes, experience these and other common conditions such as arthritis and tendinitis. Ultrasound guided injections help treat these and other issues affecting many parts of the body, including the wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot.

Ultrasound injections are precise. Unlike a "landmark-guided" approach, where a doctor uses their hands and medical knowledge to guide the injection, ultrasound technology shows onscreen exactly where the medication should be given.

"Along with physical therapy, ultrasound-guided procedures often help patients avoid having more invasive surgery," said Nathan Cardoos, MD, CAQSM. "Both of these services are available from our team at the Ryan Center for Sports Medicine."

Dr. Cardoos and Dr. Steven Huang perform ultrasound-guided procedures at the Ryan Center, and they can usually see patients in one to two days. Learn more about ultrasound services at the Ryan Center for Sports Medicine here or by calling 617.358.3400.
