Weather Advisory: Temporary Door Closure

Due to extreme cold, access through the Moakley Building's entrance off Boston Medical Center Place will be temporarily closed from 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, through 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2.

All patients and visitors should use the main entrance for the Menino and Yawkey Buildings during this time. The hospital remains open and operating as normal.

We appreciate your patience as we take these precautions during severe winter weather.

Vocal cord paralysis happens when the nerve impulses to the vocal box (larynx) are interrupted, causing paralysis. Because the vocal cord muscles not only help produce sound but help to keep saliva, food and fluid from entering the windpipe (trachea), vocal cord paralysis requires medical help. The condition can be caused by number of things including nerve damage during surgery, from cancer, or a viral infection.
