Surgery - either open or minimally invasive - is the main therapeutic approach. For open surgery, an incision is made in your neck muscle, called myotomy, and the diverticulum is taken out, which is called diverticulectomy. In the minimally invasive procedure, this is accomplished through the mouth under general anesthesia.
