Tomato-Basil Sauce

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 (28-ounce) can no-salt-added crushedtomatoordiced tomatoes
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil or 1½ teaspoons dried basil
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt


  1. Sauté onion and garlic in oil over medium heat until soft, about 3 minutes. Add tomatoes, basil, red pepper flakes and salt. Simmer, covered, on low for 15 minutes


Tastes great topped with a little grated parmesan cheese
