Miscarriage Management

Most miscarriages result from genetic factors. They typically occur due to genetic issues related to the pregnancy, not anything you did or didn’t do.  

It’s important to remember that everyday activities do not cause miscarriage. Miscarriage is not caused by sex, exercise, or playing with your children.  

You should also know that miscarriage is common. It occurs in about 20 percent percent of pregnancies, with most happening in the first trimester. 

It’s okay to not know what you want to do right away after receiving a diagnosis of miscarriage. Our caregivers can take you through all of your options and what it’s like to experience each of them, so you can make the best decision for you. 

Most women have several options for managing pregnancy loss. In the first trimester, we offer medical management with mifepristone and misoprostol. In the second trimester, labor induction may be an option. For women early in pregnancy, “waiting it out” may also an option that we can talk to you about.
