Boston Medical Center is home to two rooftop farms that provide fresh, local produce to our hospital patients, cafeterias, Teaching Kitchen, Preventive Food Pantry, and community at large. These farms are also part of BMC’s commitment to sustainability. The farms reduce the hospital’s carbon footprint, increase green space, and reduce energy use, including the energy required to transport food.

Three stories above Boston Medical Center’s power plant and 960 Mass. Ave. (Newmarket Square) office building are two thriving rooftop farms totaling 8,000 square feet in size and growing more than 50 crops.

Power Plant Farm and Newmarket Farm focus on high succession, continuous harvest, and culturally significant crops to produce an average of 10,000 pounds of produce annually.
