Boston Medical Center's Brockton Behavioral Health Center Clinical Stabilization Services (CSS) unit offers referral-only, 24-hour/7-day residential treatment to those seeking long-term recovery from substance use disorders. We embrace a harm-reduction model of care for people who use drugs and alcohol, treating patients as individuals with unique needs and goals. We meet them where they are in their recovery process, free of judgment or expectations.
Our services are available to all eligible patients regardless of their ability to pay.
Program Overview
Our CSS program is designed to empower patients to accept responsibility for an improved quality of life and make personal changes to stop using drugs or alcohol. Our program includes:
- Individual and motivational counseling
- Recovery-focused workshops and lectures
- A wide variety of group counseling, including education about substance use disorders, finding motivation and making life changes, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), self-help, 12-step programs, and skills training, among many others
- Care coordination with patients’ doctors, nurses, and other members of their care team outside of Brockton Behavioral Health Center (BBHC)
- Medication-assisted therapy for eligible patients
- Discharge planning assistance for patients leaving BBHC for the next step of their recovery journey
About Our Team
As an employer, we value diversity and representation. Our leadership and staff offer culturally competent services and reflect the makeup of the Brockton community. CSS’s multi-disciplinary staff consists of a medical director, clinical director, program director, recovery nurses, behavioral health counselors, care coordinators, and recovery specialists. All team members work with patients to ensure they receive the highest-quality patient care. We offer many services in languages other than English, including (not limited to) Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Cape Verdean.

We are located at 10 Meadowbrook Road, Brockton, MA 02301 about 30 minutes from downtown Boston. Our services are available by appointment only.
Referral Process
- Referring agencies will submit patient information (i.e. reason for referral, biopsychosocial assessment, current medication list) to CSS Intake Coordinator.
- CSS staff will review referral to determine eligibility for program admission.
- Upon approval, the CSS Intake Coordinator will contact the referring agency to coordinate logistics for a patient's arrival to our program.

How long is the CSS Program?
The average length of stay is 12-14 days. This amount of time varies based on the individual’s needs and aftercare planning.
What is the CSS Program’s referral process?
A patient must go through an agency or mental health services provider, where a staff will submit a referral to our program for services. Our staff will review the referral to determine eligibility for admission into our program.
There are some forms of MassHealth, Medicare and commercial insurances that we may accept. Please contact our Program to confirm if we are able to accept a patient’s health insurance plan. Additionally, a referring agency may also call the behavioral health member services phone number on the back of the patient’s insurance card.
How can a patient arrive and depart from the CSS Program?
The referring agency must arrange transportation for the patient’s admission to the program. At the time of discharge, our staff will work with the patient to coordinate transportation to depart from the program.
Can a patient discharge at any time?
Yes. A patient can discharge from the program at any time but will not be permitted to leave the premises unless transportation has been arranged. Our staff will work with the patient to coordinate transportation to depart from the program.
Does CSS have visitation?
Here at CSS, we strongly encourage loved one’s involvement in treatment and recovery, and we offer visitation hours. Patients and visitors will be notified the visitation hours during their intake. Please contact the CSS for more information on visiting hours.
What supports exist for CSS patients in the community after discharge?
We work closely with several community agencies and supports to provide appropriate aftercare services. This can include residential, mental health, psychiatric, medical, case management, and peer support services.
