BMC’s Pediatric Inpatient Unit provides hospital care for a wide range of medical and surgical conditions in patients ranging in age from newborn to 22 years. We consider patients and their caregivers to be essential members of the care team, and actively involve you in developing patient-centered treatment plans both during admission and after discharge.

All 22 rooms in our state-of-the-art unit are private. Each has its own bathroom (with shower), as well as a sleeper sofa for adult caregivers.

Research

Pediatric Research Overview

Our faculty have contributed to scholarship on a wide range of pediatric diseases and topics, including best practices in caring for patients with limited English proficiency, impacts of a medication-to-bedside program, neonatal opiate withdrawal syndrome (NOWS), improving assessments of pediatric learners, and disparities in healthcare delivery.

We also play a critical role in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives for pediatric inpatients and have been regional leaders in implementing several novel programs, such as use of noninvasive ventilation to decrease the incidence of acute chest in sickle cell disease and use of a DVT risk screening algorithm for pediatric patients.
