Curbside Care Program

Treatments and Services

Curbside Care provides the following services for people who have given birth and their babies:

  • Newborn primary care
  • Lactation support
  • Postpartum mood disorder screening and referrals
  • Blood pressure monitoring and treatment
  • Birth control, including long-acting reversible contraceptives like Nexplanon
  • Chronic disease management
  • Vaccines
  • Blood tests
  • Connections to resources at BMC and in the community
  • Streamlined connection to primary care and specialty services
  • Referrals to doulas and community groups

Learn More About Our Services

A Curbside Care visit provides the same great care you get when you come to BMC, but right outside your door. Here's what to expect:

  • Our team will call you when we are on the way and again when we are outside your residence.
  • You will come onto our mobile clinic with your baby - support people and siblings are welcome!
  • We care for you and your newborn together! 
  • We will address any concerns you have about yourself or your baby.

At most of our visits, we provide medical care for you and your baby. This might include any or all of the following services.

Care for Birthing Person

For you, we:

  • Discuss your birth experience, healing, and recovery
  • Check your blood pressure
  • Do a physical exam 
  • Discuss your mood and strategies for self-care
  • Discuss family planning and provide birth control if desired
    • We can provide you with the Depo-Provera shot, Nexplanon, or emergency contraception (like Plan B or Ella) on the mobile clinic. We can also prescribe other methods, like the pill or patch.

Care for Baby

For your baby, we:

  • Check weight, temperature, and measurements 
  • Do a physical exam
  • Check for jaundice
  • Discuss newborn feeding, care, safety, and development

Care for Both

We also provide care that helps both you and your baby, including:

  • Give breastfeeding/pumping assistance, if you're giving your baby breast milk
  • Review what to expect postpartum and with a new baby
  • Discuss how and when to call your providers
  • Discuss ways to interact with your baby to promote bonding and development
    • Connect interested families to The Basics Boston text messaging program and resources 
  • Connect you and your baby to primary care and specialty services as needed

If you are giving your baby breast milk, you can have a designated lactation visit as part of the Curbside Care program. Our lactation team can help you with:

Curbside Care patients are also eligible for donor breast milk through our partnership with Mother’s Milk Bank Northeast.
