The BMCHS Bereavement Committee provides resources for compassionate, culturally appropriate care and support to patients, families, and staff in the time surrounding a patient’s death.

In addition, we support dying patients who may not have family or friends present during end-of-life with a compassionate presence and work across the health system to help support staff and patients on matters involving end-of-life care, especially memorials and remembrances.

Our team has three main areas of focus:

  • Bereavement Guide and Bereavement Support Information: Practical information and guidance for the surviving loved ones of patients who have recently died
  • Compassionate Companions Volunteers: A program where trained volunteer companions provide a comforting presence for those at the end of life who are alone or whose families or friends are unable to be present. Our goal is that no one dies alone.
  • Programs and Events: We plan, highlight and support programs and events such as memorials and remembrance services to assist in the process of grieving and healing

Throughout our website, you’ll find information and guidance to assist patients, families, and loved ones through the process of the end of life. This is meant to be a source of support and comfort by providing information and points of contact.
