Required Information 

The only things you need are below:

  • Unexpired photo ID(s) issued by the United States government for you and your spouse (if you’re filing together) ‍
    • Examples: driver's license, US passport, Massachusetts state ID card, green card, work authorization card 
  • Social Security cards or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) for each family member
  • Income this year: Whatever you have of the below (most people don't have income from all of these)
    • Jobs: W2 form, 1099-NEC form 
    • Unemployment benefits: 1099-G form 
    • Social Security payments: 1099-SSA form 
    • Bank interest, dividend, or retirement accounts - 1099-INT, 1099-DIV or 1099-R forms
  • Proof of health insurance, such as

If you have any of these documents, they can help you get more money back.  

  • Health insurance-related paperwork
    • Health insurance premium bills 
    • Health insurance cards for taxpayer, spouse, and all dependents 
  • Housing expenses 
    • Examples: amount of rent you paid this tax year (monthly or yearly) 
    • Property taxes or mortgage payments, 1098 forms, or total rent paid in 2024 
  • Childcare expenses 
    • The amount you spent on daycare or babysitting, along with the tax ID number (EIN) or Social Security Number (SSN) of the person or company you paid. 
  • Tax-related mail or forms 
    • Any mail you've received from the IRS or MA Department of Revenue, or other tax forms
  • Education or student loan expenses 
    • Examples: student account statements, amount spent on materials, or 1098-T forms
    • Student loan interest paid, 1098-E form 
  • Old tax return, if you filed in a past year 
    • From the most recent year you filed, if you have filed in the past 
  • Bank account information 
    • Bank-issued printed account and routing numbers to direct deposit your tax refund into your account 
  • Proof of out-of-pocket expenses in 2024 
    • Proof of ANY deductible out-of-pocket expense (charitable receipts, property taxes, etc.)
