A Message from Executive Director Michael Collins
Welcome to the website for Research Operations at Boston Medical Center. This site is designed for principal investigators, program directors, and administrators and contains the forms, training documents, and answers to frequently asked questions in order to develop and manage your grants and contracts successfully. With these resources, you will be able manage your grants as you conduct pioneering work that will revolutionize our exceptional patient care.
At BMC, we stand at the forefront of academic medicine on a regional and a global level. It is our ground breaking medical research that enables us to stay on healthcare’s cutting edge. Our researchers embody our commitment to collaborate, innovate, and accelerate cures for the health issues that affect us all. Here, some of the nation’s leading minds are actively championing the fight against some of the world’s most insidious infectious diseases. The Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM) at BMC and Boston University has created a disease-specific stem cell bank for a variety of inherited lung ailments, from cystic fibrosis to sickle cell anemia; they’re also working on new methods to help restore normal lung function to those living with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or pulmonary fibrosis. And a team led by Thomas Perls MD, MPH, is conducting fascinating longevity investigations through the New England Centenarian Study (NECS): the largest biopsychosocial and genetic study of centenarians and their families in the world. These are just a few examples of how BMC’s research today will result in the breakthroughs of tomorrow.
In 2016, BMC received more than $119 million in budgeted sponsored research funding. This includes basic science research, as well as exciting translational (“bench to bedside”) research, which sets the stage for measurable and improved outcomes. Excellent research is the result of fortitude, creativity, brilliance, and dedication. It also requires the correct tools to transform focused effort into new knowledge and discoveries. I hope that this site offers those important building blocks for everyone who plays a role in BMC’s dynamic research enterprise.
