How Primary Care Helps Keep You Healthy

Getting regular primary care is a great way to help prevent more serious health problems. When you see your primary care provider (PCP) regularly—once a year for a check-in if you don’t have any health issues or more often if you get sick or have a chronic condition—they can help catch conditions early, which often leads to better outcomes for your health.

  • Primary care at BMC offers a wide range of services related to preventive care, general wellness, chronic condition management, and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries. This includes:
  • Treatment for a new illness or injury, such as a cold, cough, flu, joint injury, or rash
  • Routine care and screenings, such as annual physicals, vaccinations, screenings for conditions such as cancer, and more
  • Help making decisions about your health, with the knowledge they’ll gain about you over your time together
  • Management of chronic conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and  asthma
  • Referrals to BMC’s expert specialists when necessary
  • Connections to other services you may need, such as for housing or food
