El VIH (virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana) es el virus que causa el síndrome de inmunodeficiencia adquirida o SIDA. Las personas infectadas con el VIH, que generalmente se transmiten a través de los fluidos corporales de las relaciones sexuales sin protección o de las agujas compartidas para consumir drogas, no siempre tienen SIDA. Los síntomas del VIH pueden permanecer inactivos (inactivos) durante años, aunque muchos experimentan síntomas similares a los de la gripe poco después de infectarse. No existe cura para el VIH, que se diagnostica con un análisis de sangre.
