The Pediatric AIDS Program provides evaluation, ongoing care, and prevention for children with HIV, as well as support for their families, in close collaboration with our colleagues in Obstetrics and the HIV Program for adults. From primary care to mental health support to specialized care for babies exposed to HIV and pioneering therapies in maternal-child healthcare, we support all aspects of care for those who need our services.

Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship
Fellows in Pediatric Infectious Diseases participate in a three-year program that provides training to prepare them for successful careers in pediatric infectious diseases and to assure their qualification for the American Board of Pediatrics certifying examination in pediatric infectious diseases. The three-year training experience includes submersion in the clinical experience in the first year followed by two years of concentrated mentored research time.
Pediatric HIV and HCV Research
The Pediatric Infectious Disease group, in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics, has a number of programs involving the health of mothers and babies, including treatment of pregnant HIV infected women, the prevention of vertical transmission, and the potential risk to newborns from maternal exposure of hepatitis C and the advantages of treating infants.
BMC is also currently the only institution in New England who is part of the IMPAACT Network. As a Center of Excellence, we have participated in cutting-edge research and continue to have uninterrupted access to the latest therapeutics and diagnostics. We are currently conducting research of investigational drugs and vaccines for both primary HIV therapy and the prevention and treatment of opportunistic infections, and the long-term complications of HIV infection, as well as trials targeting children and adolescents with resistant HIV infection.
