The Boston Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights (BCRHHR) provides comprehensive mental health services designed to meet the special needs of refugees, survivors of torture, asylees (those who have been granted asylum), asylum seekers, and immigrants. At BCRHHR, we understand the challenges that members of the refugee community face and can help you get the services you need to heal, rebuild, and thrive. 

We are a key program of the Immigrant and Refugee Health Center (IRHC), a cross-departmental program that provides one central place for patients can get connected with the services.

Department of Psychiatry

A department providing mental and behavioral health care to improve emotional wellbeing, including therapy for anxiety, depression, and trauma.

Primary care for people over 18 years old including preventive services, routine exams, chronic disease management, and treatment of minor illness.
A program providing primary care for immigrant and refugee patients, helping eliminate healthcare barriers with check-ups, treatment, and care coordination.

A department providing women’s reproductive healthcare and other OBGYN services, including pregnancy, fertility, and menstrual conditions.

Our mission is to provide comprehensive, culturally sensitive sexual and reproductive health services to refugees, asylum-seekers, and recent immigrants in the greater Boston area.

Education and Training

Our Educational Mission

In an effort to serve survivors of torture and related trauma, the BCRHHR firmly recognizes the importance of providing care to the whole person and reaches out to refugee communities and torture survivors to offer a place of safety and trust.

Our mission is not just to to provide holistic healthcare coordinated for asylum seekers, refugees, survivors of torture, and their families, but also to train professionals to serve this population and in best practices for empathetically conducting research to support and promote health and human rights.

Global Psychiatry Fellowship

The BMC Department of Psychiatry offers a global psychiatry clinical research fellowship. This three-year program aims to develop independent clinical scientists who can address the most pressing global mental health challenges, particularly in low- to middle-income countries and resource-limited areas.

Immigrant and Refugee Mental Health Research

We conduct research to understand and implement best practices and promote health and human rights, locally and globally, to improve the quality of life of survivors of torture and their communities.

The BCRHHR is a member of the National Consortium of Torture Treatment Programs (NCTTP) as well as the Denmark-based International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims.
