If you are hoping to achieve freedom from glasses or contact lenses, LASIK may be for you. LASIK is a form of laser vision correction that changes the shape of your cornea to improve your uncorrected vision. In other words, LASIK offers you the chance to see well without glasses or contact lenses.
Who Qualifies
You will undergo a thorough personalized evaluation to ensure that LASIK is a safe, sustainable, and effective option for you. If you are 18 years or older and need glasses or contact lenses in order to see well, you may be a candidate for LASIK. During your LASIK consultation, we will review your medical health, medications, and ocular health to make sure LASIK is right for you. Some patients are better candidates for a similar procedure called PRK, and both options will always be discussed with you.
What Happens During LASIK
Once you're cleared for LASIK, you will be scheduled for your LASIK procedure. The procedure itself involves two sets of specialized ophthalmic lasers that change the shape of your cornea. The procedure is short — on the order of less than 5 to 10 minutes — and patients go home with improved vision the same day.
Recovery
Many patients notice an immediate improvement in their uncorrected vision. Most patients are comfortable during and after the procedure. You will be using eye drop medications after the procedure, and you will be seen in follow-up one day, one week, and one to two months after the procedure. We work with you and guide you through the entire process to ensure you are safe and comfortable and meeting your goals.
