We will soon begin repaving the main driveway outside the Yawkey, Menino, and Moakley buildings. Weather permitting, driveway closures are scheduled for the following weekends, from Friday at 8 p.m. through Sunday at 8 p.m., on the following dates: Sept. 19-21, Sept. 26-28, Oct. 17-19, and Oct. 24-26.

Access Changes During Construction:

Pedestrian Access: Patients and visitors will be able to enter Moakley through the entrance on East Concord Street.

Vehicle Access: Vehicular traffic should use the designated drop-off and pick-up area on East Concord Street or the 710 Albany Street Garage. Signage will indicate where metered parking has been blocked off to create a drop-off/pick-up zone (on E. Concord between Harrison and the Moakley side entrance).

Treatments and Services

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

Boston Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is one of the area’s leading and most established programs, and sets the standards for excellence. The program includes exercise training and cardiovascular risk factor modification for patients who have heart disease, including coronary artery disease (recent heart attack, coronary artery bypass surgery, coronary artery angioplasty), recent heart valve surgery, and heart failure (including heart transplant and left ventricular assist device).

We provide each patient with an initial assessment by a program cardiologist, plus:

  • Cholesterol screening and management
  • Personal nutrition evaluation
  • Smoking cessation counseling
  • Social and behavioral support
  • Supervised exercise training

Our experienced multidisciplinary staff includes Boston Medical Center cardiologists, exercise physiologists, nutritionists, a cardiovascular nurse, and support from BMC’s social service and behavioral specialists.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is located at BMC’s Cardiovascular Center and is equipped with advanced exercise equipment and spacious shower and locker room facilities.

Fees are covered by all major insurance companies and managed care plans as well as Medicare and Medicaid.

PAD (Peripheral Arterial Disease) Rehabilitation

The PAD Rehab Program is designed especially for patients with peripheral arterial disease who are limited by claudication (leg cramping during walking). It includes specialized supervised exercise training and risk factor modification under the direction of one of BMC’s vascular medicine cardiologists and delivered by the same multidisciplinary team and same location as our Cardiac Rehabilitation and Prevention Program.

Lipid Clinic

High cholesterol levels and blood lipids can lead to the development and progression of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease—and its consequences. Appropriate treatment, however, may slow or even reverse this process. BMC’s Lipid Clinic specialists provide detailed personal evaluation and tailored state-of-the-art management to treat these disorders and help prevent the onset or worsening of cardiovascular disease.
