An Update Regarding Seasonal Illnesses

To help prevent the spread of seasonal respiratory illnesses, we strongly encourage all visitors to wear a mask while in ambulatory clinics or inpatient units. Surgical masks are available at hospital and clinic entrances. Patients with respiratory illnesses should also wear masks. Thank you for helping protect our patients, staff, and community.

About

Yiqin Xiong, MD, PhD, is a board-certified attending pathologist specializing in gastrointestinal (GI) and liver pathology at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Assistant Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Dr. Xiong earned her medical degree from Shandong Medical University in China, and a PhD in Neurobiology from the University of Kentucky. She then conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University before completing her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, as well as a fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. Prior to joining BMC in February 2025, Dr. Xiong served as a GI pathologist at the University of Iowa, where she also covered genitourinary and general pathology.

Dr. Xiong is board-certified by the American Board of Pathology and an active member of CAP, USCAP, ASCP, GIPS, and ISUP. Her research focuses on gastrointestinal and liver pathology, including inflammatory bowel disease, tumor biomarkers, epigenetics, and cancer progression. She has published extensively in these areas and is committed to advancing clinical practice, education, and cancer research.
