About

Kathryn (Kate) Twomey, MD, is a board-certified trauma surgeon and surgical critical care intensivist at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Dr. Twomey received her medical degree from the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and completed her general surgery residency training at Boston Medical Center. She subsequently completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, before joining BMC in 2019.

Dr. Twomey’s interests include improving the care of vulnerable populations—such as underserved and minority communities, pregnant patients, and victims of violence—as well as education, mentorship, and peer support. Her research centers on advocacy for physicians and surgeons with disabilities.
