Elizabeth J. Levey, MD

Elizabeth J. Levey, MD, is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and psychoanalyst at Boston Medical Center (BMC), where she directs the SEED Program for Early Childhood Mental Health, and a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Dr. Levey received her medical degree from the University of Chicao Pritzker School of Medicine. She completing her residency training in adult psychiatry followed by a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. She has training as a psychoanalyst, including in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and infant/parent mental health. She is a member of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.

Dr. Levey specializes in trauma care and provides care to children, adolescents, and adults. Due to her expertise in both medical psychiatry and psychoanalysis, she has a uniquely specialized training base to treat children and families with a wide range of mental health-related diagnoses. She also provides on-call coverage for child and adolescent psychiatry.

Dr. Levey’s research focuses on maternal and child mental health, trauma, and resilience. Before joining BMC, she was awarded a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) T32 postdoctoral research fellowship in Global Psychiatry, followed by a NIMH K23 career development award to pilot a perinatal intervention for adolescent mothers in Perú. She served as a Fulbright US Scholar and as a Visiting Professor at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima and is involved in projects in India, Pakistan, and El Salvador.

Dr. Levey is participates in the education and training of BU medical students and LMHC students, directs psychotherapy training for BMC psychiatry residents, and is a faculty member for the MGH/BMC T32 Global Psychiatry Research Fellowship.
