Charlene Sylvestre is a nurse practitioner at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and instructor of medicine at Boston University, certified in ... family practice. After twelve years of working in family practice in California, Maine, and Massachusetts, Charlene decided to specialize in adult sickle cell care. Since 2015, she has been the adult sickle cell nurse practitioner at the Center for Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease at BMC, providing inpatient and outpatient care and managing acute pain at the Infusion Center. Her research interests focus on sickle cell disease and pain management.
In 2021, Charlene was awarded the APP Boston University Medical Group Clinical Excellence Award. Charlene also participates in the Healing Paws Pet Therapy Program at BMC with her Chihuahua, Nellie, and has contributed to the development of the “Sickle Cell Boot Camp for Nurses” curriculum, working with sickle cell nurse educators nationally.
A retired member of the United States Air Force with 22 years of service, Charlene deployed twice during Operation Enduring Freedom. She received her BSN from Salem State College, her MSW at Boston College, and her MSN at Holy Names University.
