About

Alexandros Karavas, MD, is Interim Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Boston Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Dr. Karavas received his medical degree from Humboldt University of Berlin–Charité in 1997. He did his internship in general surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and completed residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, MA. This was followed by a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN, and a fellowship in aortic surgery at the Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Prior to joining BMC in 2022, Dr. Karavas was a cardiothoracic surgeon in upstate New York. In addition to English, he is fluent in German and Greek.
