The Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Program serves patients with chronic respiratory failure from various causes, which is typically identified during hospital admissions. Our specialized team provides an in-depth review of a patient’s history, past admissions, and collaborates with the patient on how to move forward with therapy.

Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship
This three-year program provides training for fellows to become board-certified in both pulmonary and critical care medicine. The fellowship includes clinical care at Boston Medical Center and the VA Boston Healthcare System, as well as a mentored research project. An optional fourth year, focused on research, is also available to trainees.
Pulmonary Medicine Research Overview
In conjunction with the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, our clinic participates in a wide variety of research related to COPD and its root causes, including unique programs in genetic lung diseases, clinical trials for gene therapy for alpha-1 deficiency, and an inducible pluripotential stem cell program related to ciliary dyskinesia and alpha-1.
