Marisa C. Nielsen, MS, PhD, is Medical Director of Clinical Microbiology at Boston Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Dr. Nielsen earned an MS in Environmental Microbiology at the University of Arizona and spent nearly a decade working in clinical microbiology before pursuing a PhD at University of California, Irvine. Afterwards, she completed a clinical microbiology fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Dr. Nielsen is a certified Specialist in Microbiology by the American Society for Clinical Pathology and a board-accredited Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM). Her interests include infectious disease diagnostics and microscopy, with a specific focus on high-consequence pathogens, particularly those acquired from environmental exposures.
