El síndrome de ovario poliquístico (SOP) es un trastorno del sistema endocrino común en las mujeres en el que los ovarios se agrandan y retienen líquido. Los síntomas del síndrome de ovario poliquístico incluyen períodos menstruales irregulares o ausentes, vello corporal excesivo, niveles altos de la hormona insulina y aumento de peso. Se desconocen las causas exactas, pero se cree que el exceso de insulina, la inflamación general y la herencia (en la familia) influyen.
