La amenorrea es la ausencia del ciclo (período) menstrual de una niña o mujer; para las mujeres, el diagnóstico es después de 3 meses sin un período, y las niñas son diagnosticadas si no han tenido un período antes de los 15 años. Las causas van desde el embarazo, la lactancia y la menopausia (amenorrea natural) hasta medicamentos y condiciones de estilo de vida, como grasa corporal baja y entrenamiento o ejercicio excesivo para las niñas.
