The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) is a state-of-the art unit led by surgeons specializing in providing the highest level of care for patients who require advanced surgical or trauma expertise. This includes patients who are experiencing multisystem organ failure, as well as those requiring perioperative monitoring or complex care related to a broad range of general, cardiac, vascular, thoracic, urologic, neurologic, and orthopedic conditions. Care is multidisciplinary and brings together surgeons, an experienced critical care nursing staff, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, social workers, and members of other BMC teams.

Trauma doctors specially trained to care for urgent injuries and critical conditions provide emergency surgical services, including ER surgery.
