Sandra Mattar, PsyD, is a licensed clinical psychologist at the Boston Center for Refugee Health & Human Rights at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. She is also a faculty member/supervisor at the BMC Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology.
Dr. Mattar has more than twenty years ... of clinical and teaching experience combined, and has done field research around war trauma in Lebanon. She is a founding member of Division 56 (Trauma Psychology) of the American Psychological Association (APA), and a coauthor of the Race and Ethnicity Guidelines in Psychology (2019). She is currently an Associate Editor for the APA Journal of Psychological Trauma.
Dr. Mattar’s research interests are in the intersection of psychological trauma and culture; immigrant and refugee mental health; mental health disparities; cultural considerations in mental health; and in education and training. Her clinical interests also include mindfulness and spirituality. She also holds a yoga teacher certification (CYT-500 hours) and is part-time faculty at the Boston College Graduate Counseling Program.
