Frequently Asked Questions about the Transition to Epic Electronic Medical Records

How do I view Pathology & Laboratory Medicine test results?

BMCHS Providers: BMC Health System (BMCHS) patients’ pathology and laboratory results will be available in Epic on November 1, 2025.
Revere Medical Providers: BMCHS patients’ pathology and laboratory results generated by BMCHS labs will be visible in ChartLink.
BMCHS providers whose patients have been seen by Revere Medical providers: Results generated by Quest Labs will be available in Care Everywhere (via a connection with Care Quality). Care Quality connects with Care Everywhere, allowing BMC providers to see Quest lab results in Epic for Revere Medical patients.
A subset of send-out testing may not interface back to Epic—those results will be scanned and available in the OnBase tab in Epic.

How do I treat NIH and CDC samples during this government shutdown?

Due to the government shutdown that commenced October 1, 2025, specimens that would ordinarily go out to federal government laboratories may not be processed (CDC, NIH, etc.). This mainly impacts esoteric or special testing (agents of bioterrorism may fall into this category).

NIH Samples

Specimens that would ordinarily be sent for testing to the NIH will be canceled, and/or depending on stability and clinical need, frozen for testing later.

CDC Samples

Specimens that would ordinarily be sent to the CDC will be evaluated for availability based on the following lists:

Note: Some tests have no equivalent at other reference laboratories and might not be performed.

How do I order GYN supplies for SurePath?

The BD SurePath™ GYN supply order information only consists of the Vial Gyn Preservative and the Cervex-Brush®. Request supplies by contacting the appropriate pathology lab directly:

For Pap Collection

BD offers brushes, brooms, and spatulas for specimen collection. The collection tool used is a matter of preference. However, whatever collection tool is used, it needs to be manufactured by BD.

This testing has been FDA-approved only using these collection tools. No other brand is validated for use with this system, and use would be considered off-label.
Whether a brush, broom, or spatula is used, the collection end of it needs to be broken off and kept inside the collection vial.

For anal paps collected in SurePath™ media, the provider would not use a brush, they would use a swab. The BMC Fixative Chart has information on the collection media and supplies:
