The Emergency Department (ED) at BMC provides 24/7 cutting-edge, comprehensive, team-based emergency medical care, including surgical and subspecialty consult services and specialized pediatric care. We are the largest provider of trauma and emergency services in New England and a national model of excellence in emergency medicine.
If you are having an emergency, please call 911. If you have medical questions, please call your primary care doctor, or you may come to the Emergency Department to be seen. We are not able to give medical advice over the phone.

Emergency Medicine Education and Training
Clerkships
We offer a variety of electives and clerkships for medication students, including a third-year medical student selective and a clerkship and an emergency medicine ultrasound elective for fourth-year medical students. Our clerkships provide an intense clinical experience in a busy emergency department and trauma center.
Residency
Our residency program is dedicated to giving residents the strength and confidence to treat the most critically injured and medically challenging patients and address the social determinants of health challenges our patients face. We also provide training in a variety of specialties, from global health to emergency ultrasound.
Fellowships
BMC offers emergency medicine fellowships in several subspecialties. In addition to clinical training, fellows receive professional development and scholarship research training, and are appointed at the instructor or assistant professor rank at the BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.
