When autoimmune diseases cause inflammation in the lungs, this can lead to scarring. Scarring from this type of inflammation is called interstitial lung disease (ILD). ILD is common in patients with inflammatory myopathies (myositis).

Symptoms may include:

  • Cough that won't go away
  • Shortness of breath
  • Reduced ability to exercise
  • Fatigue
