Social Stories
Many individuals with ASD have heightened preferences for routines and difficulties navigating unfamiliar settings. Preparing before visiting the doctor often helps reduce fears and anxieties, improving the chance of a successful visit.
The Autism Friendly Initiative’s Healthcare Social Stories website is a library of social stories about the various procedures that commonly take place during a visit to the hospital.

Autism Resource Specialists
Autism resource specialists (ARS) support patients through visits in any department across Boston Medical Center. This effort involves coordination with providers and families prior to the visit, creating an individualized visit plan, and in-person support. For more information about our ARS support, click here!
