The Chronic Respiratory Failure Clinic serves patients unable to maintain the normal work of breathing because of various causes, such as pulmonary diseases, obesity, and neuromuscular disorders. These chronic conditions can gradually lead to respiratory failure. Our specialized team provides an in-depth review of a patient’s history and past admissions, collaborating with the patient and their primary pulmonary or neurology team on how to move forward with therapy.

Education and Training

Training in Chronic Respiratory Failure

Our clinic welcomes a variety of trainees to learn foundational skills for management of chronic respiratory failure, including pulmonology and critical care fellows, internal medicine residents, sleep fellows, and medical students.

Research

Our team of experts focuses on identifying patients who are under-recognized but are at high risk for chronic respiratory failure. By prioritizing groups with frequent hospital admissions and at risk of high mortality, we aim to uncover early indicators of disease progression, develop strategies to support smoother transitions from hospital to home, and ultimately reduce readmissions and improve quality of life
