Ramon G. Bonegio, MD, PhD, is a board-certified nephrologist at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and a clinical associate professor of medicine in nephrology at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. After receiving his medical degree in South Africa, Dr. Bonegio moved to Boston to complete a fellowship in nephrology at the Boston University Medical Center. Since then, he has focused on the diagnosis and management of patients with lupus-nephritis and immune complex glomerulonephritis. In 2011, he collaborated with colleagues to establish the Boston Medical Center Lupus Program, which he now co-directs. Dr. Bonegio also runs a laboratory that investigates the pathobiology of immune-complex glomerulonephritis to develop new therapeutics. His extensive scientific and laboratory work has given him a unique perspective on how to translate scientific breakthroughs to the clinical space. His expertise includes lupus nephritis, autoimmune kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, toxicity of immunosuppression, and genetics of immune-mediated kidney disease.
