An Update Regarding Seasonal Illnesses

To help prevent the spread of seasonal respiratory illnesses, we strongly encourage all visitors to wear a mask while in ambulatory clinics or inpatient units. Surgical masks are available at hospital and clinic entrances. Patients with respiratory illnesses should also wear masks. Thank you for helping protect our patients, staff, and community.

“Your sensory accommodations have been a great benefit to our patients. They are such a hit, and really help us to complete our important procedures for patients who may be feeling overwhelmed.”

Toolpacks

Our sensory toolpacks serve to make our patients feel as comfortable as possible during their visit to BMC. Toolpack items are meant to calm, distract, and redirect patients challenged by an overstimulating healthcare environment.

Sensory toolpacks have supported thousands of patient encounters across BMC, and can be found in the following departments:

  • Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics
  • Pediatric Primary Care
  • Pediatric Neurology
  • Pediatric Pulmonology
  • Pediatric Dental
  • Pediatric Allergy
  • Public Safety
  • Phlebotomy
  • Ophthalmology
  • Radiology
  • Pediatric Emergency Department
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Orthopedic Clinic
  • Rehab
  • Endoscopy
  • Infectious Disease
  • Occupational Therapy

When arriving for your visit, make sure to ask if a sensory toolpack is available! To receive a toolpack, you can also contact the Autism Friendly Initiative at autismfriendly@bmc.org.

We extend tremendous gratitude to Newton Public School’s STRIDE Program for their support in assembling our toolpacks.
