The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) cares for complex critically ill patients admitted to BMC. Our multidisciplinary team of physicians works closely with MICU nursing, respiratory therapy, and pharmacists, as well with as all medical and surgical specialties across the hospital, to ensure inpatients with critical illnesses get the best care possible.  

To provide the best care for patients, we work with all relevant specialties from across BMC.
A department providing care to support lung health and improve breathing for people with for asthma, allergies, COPD, and other breathing conditions.

A department providing anesthesiology care, including anesthesia before, during, and after procedures and pain management services.

A department providing GI medicine care for digestive conditions and support to manage symptoms and improve long-term gastrointestinal health.

A program providing inpatient neurology care for conditions such as stroke, seizures, and neurological emergencies.

A department providing nephrology and renal medicine care, including diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management for a variety of kidney conditions.
Education and Training

Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship

The MICU is the primary critical care training facility for BMC's pulmonary and critical care fellowship at BMC. This three-year program, of which critical care is a core component, provides training for fellows to become board-certified in both pulmonary and critical care medicine. We offer rotations for fellows from both surgical and neurologic critical care.
