Thyroid surgery can treat a number of issues with the thyroid, including nodules, tumors, and hyperthyroidism that can't be treated with medication. Depending on the issue, your surgeon may remove part or all of the thyroid gland.

If the entire thyroid is removed, you'll need to take hormone medication to replace the hormones your thyroid made before.
