Katherine J. Rushfirth, MSN, CNM, FACNM, is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and the Policy Director for the Neighborhood Birth Center (neighborhoodbirthcenter.org), scheduled to break ground in Roxbury in summer 2026.

Katherine holds an undergraduate degree in Women’s Studies/Anthropology from Barnard College in Manhattan, New York, and completed her midwifery education at Yale School of Nursing in New Haven, Connecticut. She was among the first midwives to be appointed as teaching faculty at Harvard Medical School. In 2022, she was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Nurse Midwives (FACNM) for her contributions to the field of midwifery.

Katherine has a long-held commitment to health equity and social justice. She previously served as Associate Chief of Midwifery at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), where she led programs to address social determinants of health in the MGH patient population and expanded family planning, including abortion services, to community health centers.
