HomeWelcome to Radiation Oncology at Boston Medical CenterAt BMC, we provide “Exceptional care, without exception” to all who entrust us with their health care; nowhere is this more evident than with our cancer patients. The Moakley Building, where most of BMC’s cancer services are now conveniently co-located, is a state-of-the-art cancer care facility designed with patient privacy, comfort and dignity in mind. Radiation Oncology is the medical specialty devoted to the treatment of cancer and certain benign diseases with radiation. Radiation may be used to try to eradicate cancer or shrink tumors, typically in combination with surgery and/or chemotherapy, or to help improve quality of life by reducing pain or other symptoms.
The BMC Radiation Oncology Department provides the most effective cancer treatment available anywhere, including specialized techniques such as CyberKnife. Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), High Dose Brachytherapy and Stereotactic Radiosurgery. Our advanced radiation equipment allows us to target treatment of tumors with remarkable precision and thereby spare healthy surrounding tissue – maximizing cures while minimizing side effects. Our highly trained and experienced radiation oncologists work closely with medical oncologists, surgeons and specialists from other disciplines to provide the best, comprehensive cancer care possible. We regularly participate in multidisciplinary clinics where physicians from different specialties come together to examine and evaluate each patient’s needs in order to develop optimal, customized treatment. We ensure that each patient and family is treated with dignity, respect and compassion by providing personalized care including help with transportation, nutritional guidance and interpreter services. We look at each individual as a whole. In developing a treatment plan, we take into consideration the physical, psychological and social impacts of the disease, not only for the patient, but also for the entire family. From the moment a patient walks through our doors, he or she will receive the most compassionate and personalized care available anywhere – all in a warm and soothing environment. 2012 Gala VideoThis video presents three brave cancer survivors who received their care at BMC's Cancer Care Center.
