BMC’s Public Health Clinic, also known as the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Clinic, provides counseling, screening, and treatment of STDs.  Our diverse free or low-cost services are provided confidentially by STD specialists.

 

Patients are seen on a walk-in basis only - first come, first serve.  No appointment or referral is needed to be seen.

 

  OUR SERVICES

  • Evaluation and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, including Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes, genital warts-Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), Molluscum, scabies, and vaginitis.
  • Counseling and rapid testing for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection.  Information and handouts regarding sexually transmitted infections, partner notification, and safer sex practices.
  • Hepatitis A and B vaccines.  Referrals for free hepatitis testing are available.
  • If you are experiencing symptoms, e.g., itching, burning, or sores, please visit our Public Health/STD Clinic for an exam and treatment.


No symptoms?

Asymptomatic (not experiencing any symptoms) testing is available at the Public Health/STD Clinic and also at Project TRUST.

*The STD Clinic does not offer Pap smears.

Interpreter services for other languages are available by phone.  On-site interpreters should be scheduled in advance.

Insurance

If patients do not have health insurance, or if they have health insurance but do not want the visit to be billed to their insurance company, they may still receive STD clinic services free of charge.

Registration

To register to be seen at the clinic, patients are required to provide:

  • First and last name      
  • Date of birth
  • Full address
  • Telephone number

Patients will register at the front desk of the Public Health Clinic.  This information is confidential.  There is no anonymous testing provided in our clinic.

 

Walk-in Hours

Monday, Tuesday, and Friday mornings:  8:00am - 11:00 am

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons:  1:00pm - 4:00pm

Wednesday afternoon:  1:00pm - 3:00 pm

Wednesday evening:  4:30pm - 7:00pm

 

The clinic is closed on weekends and major holidays.

 

  GETTING TO BMC

Public Transportation

The clinic is easily accessible via the MBTA.

There are five regular bus routes (Bus # 1, 8, 10, 47 and 49) and two Crosstown (CT) express bus routes (Bus CT1 and CT3) that serve the Boston Medical Center area.  Please check individual schedules for times.

Directions to the Clinic

The Public Health/STD Clinic is located in the Center for Infectious Diseases on the Ground Floor of the Dowling Building.  There is no direct access to the Dowling Building from the street.  Please enter through the Yawkey Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) or the Menino Emergency Room.

  • Yawkey ACC Building (850 Harrison Avenue):  Follow the arrows on the wall and ceiling to the Dowling Building.  Pass Urgent Care on the right; down the ramp toward the elevators. The clinic will be on your right, before the elevators.  Enter through the door that reads Center for Infectious Diseases, where you will register to be seen.
  • Menino Emergency Room (Albany Street):  Follow the arrows on the wall and ceiling to the Dowling Building.  Pass the sliding doors, turn immediately to the left, past the door, down the stairs, and turn right.  Pass the elevators to your left, and enter through the door that reads Center for Infectious Diseases, where you will register to be seen.
