An Update Regarding Seasonal Illnesses

To help prevent the spread of seasonal respiratory illnesses, we strongly encourage all visitors to wear a mask while in ambulatory clinics or inpatient units. Surgical masks are available at hospital and clinic entrances. Patients with respiratory illnesses should also wear masks. Thank you for helping protect our patients, staff, and community.

About

Carla B. Monteiro is the Behavioral Health Director for Addiction Treatment Services at the Grayken Center for Addiction at Boston Medical Center (BMC), where she oversees the clinical and operational aspects of substance use disorder (SUD) programs and initiatives. She is also a Doctoral Student (Ph.D.) in Social Work at Sacred Heart University, pursuing her research interests in substance use, race, ethnicity, and treatment outcomes. With over eight years of experience in addiction and hospital settings and as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Carla has developed and implemented evidence-based interventions, policies, and practices to address the complex needs of diverse populations affected by SUDs, mental illness, and systemic barriers. She is also a passionate advocate for social and racial justice, serving on various advisory committees and boards and engaging in community outreach, education, and public speaking.
