BOSTON – Boston Medical Center (BMC) has been recognized as part of the Healey-Driscoll Administration's Massachusetts 250th anniversary commemoration, which celebrates 250 years of America's independence and the Commonwealth's legacy of innovation. BMC's participation included a spotlight in the administration's Revolutionary Companies video series and a panel appearance at a marquee event hosted by Takeda.

As part of the video produced by WHDH-TV and Takeda that highlights organizations helping shape the future of the Commonwealth, Thea James, MD, MBA, Vice President of Mission, shared how BMC is advancing health equity, driving innovation, and building healthier communities across Boston and beyond.

"We want to make sure that 250 years from now, there's someone standing in Boston saying, 'this is where they figured it out first,’” said Dr. James.

BMC also participated in Takeda's "Commonwealth of Innovation" event on June 3 at its Lexington campus as part of the MA250 initiative. The event brought together leaders from across Massachusetts' business, academic, and civic communities to explore how cross-sector partnerships drive lasting impact.

David Twitchell, PharmD, MBA, Senior Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer at BMC Health System, joined the event's panel discussion, "How Partnerships Turn Ideas Into Revolutionary Results." He was joined by Rhonda Pacheco, U.S. Business Unit and U.S. Country Head at Takeda and Eric Paley, Massachusetts Secretary of the Executive Office of Economic Development. Together, panelists explored what enables Massachusetts to consistently translate bold ideas into real-world impact, with a focus on the role of collaboration across government, industry, academia, and communities.

"Partnership isn't optional for BMC - it's how we operate. We innovate out of necessity," said Twitchell. "As an essential hospital, many of our patients are uninsured or underinsured, which means we've had to find smarter, more collaborative ways to produce better outcomes with the resources we have."

Both recognitions coincide with a significant milestone for BMC. This year marks the organization's 30th anniversary as an academic medical center, representing three decades of expanding access to care, advancing medical research and discovery, and delivering equitable care for every community it serves.
