Romey Murphy joins executive leadership team to support BMC Health System’s continued growth and advance its model for clinical excellence, operational innovation, health equity, and access
BOSTON | June 24, 2026 - Boston Medical Center Health System (BMC Health System) announced that Romey Murphy has been named Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Murphy brings more than two decades of experience across health care delivery, value-based care, compliance and innovation, with a leadership approach focused on strategic partnership, thoughtful risk management and advancing mission-driven care. In this role, Murphy will provide strategic legal counsel and executive leadership across the organization, supporting its mission of delivering expert care and advancing health equity for its patients and members.
"I am pleased to announce that Romey Murphy will be joining Boston Medical Center Health System as our new Senior Vice President and General Counsel," said Alastair Bell, MD, MBA, President and CEO of BMC Health System. "She brings a leadership style rooted in collaboration, empathy, and relationships, with a strong belief that legal and compliance functions create the greatest value when they are embedded partners in advancing organizational strategy, supporting innovation, and helping teams solve problems in service of patients and communities."
Murphy joins BMC Health System from Equality Health, a national healthcare technology and direct care services company, where she served as Chief Legal Officer advising the CEO and Board on enterprise strategy, regulatory risk, and governance. She brings more than two decades of executive legal experience in healthcare delivery, value-based care, and compliance, including prior roles at Brown & Toland Physician Services Organization and The Cigna Group, where she served as General Counsel to the CEO of Express Scripts. Murphy holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law and a bachelor's degree from Quinnipiac University.
"I am honored to join BMC Health System as General Counsel and to become part of an organization whose mission is so deeply aligned with my own values and purpose," Murphy said. "What drew me to this opportunity was BMC Health System's unwavering commitment to advancing health equity, ensuring access to exceptional care and serving patients where they are. I look forward to partnering with leaders and teams across the organization to provide strategic legal counsel, support innovation and help advance equitable, high-quality, patient-centered care."
Murphy succeeds David Beck, who retired in June after 19 years with BMC Health System and a distinguished 45-year legal career. Since joining the organization in 2007, Beck served as a trusted strategic advisor and helped guide BMC Health System through periods of growth, transformation and complexity. He oversaw the organization's legal matters, corporate compliance and captive insurance company, and played an instrumental role in advancing its work related to disability rights and accessibility.
