Weather Advisory: Temporary Door Closure

Due to extreme cold, access through the Moakley Building's entrance off Boston Medical Center Place will be temporarily closed from 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, through 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2.

All patients and visitors should use the main entrance for the Menino and Yawkey Buildings during this time. The hospital remains open and operating as normal.

We appreciate your patience as we take these precautions during severe winter weather.

Not all types of infertility can be treated by surgery. However, if your infertility is caused by a structural issue in your reproductive system, surgery can help.

There are several different types of male infertility surgery:

  • Varicocele repair: A varicocele is a mass of veins that can block normal blood flow from your testicles. In this surgery, your surgeon will make an incision in your lower abdomen and tie off the varicocele.
  • Varicocele embolization: A surgeon will block the vein with a varicocele, which reduces pressure and helps your body direct blood to other veins.
  • Sperm duct microsurgery or transurethral ejaculatory duct resection: In some cases, a blockage in the system that carries sperm to the penis can lead to infertility. This type of surgery removes any blockages.
  • Microsurgical sperm retrieval: If you do not have any sperm in your semen or have other problems with ejaculation, a surgeon can remove healthy sperm from your sperm ducts.
  • Vasectomy reversal: If you previously had a vasectomy, a surgeon can reserve the procedure, allowing sperm to be released into your semen again.
