Weather Advisory: Temporary Door Closure

Due to extreme cold, access through the Moakley Building's entrance off Boston Medical Center Place will be temporarily closed from 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, through 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2.

All patients and visitors should use the main entrance for the Menino and Yawkey Buildings during this time. The hospital remains open and operating as normal.

We appreciate your patience as we take these precautions during severe winter weather.

Doctors use blood chemistry tests to check the levels of different chemicals and electrolytes, such as potassium and sodium, in the blood. Doctors also check the blood for high levels of calcium and creatinine (a compound passed from the body in the urine). The level of creatinine in the blood is directly correlated with kidney health. When the kidneys are damaged, the blood level of creatinine rises.
