February is heart month, which is celebrated to raise awareness for diseases of the heart, no matter what age you are. While you may not typically think of children when you think of cardiology, as the obesity epidemic in our country increases, more children are presenting with adult like diseases of the heart.


This vital information is important to keep in mind not only during Heart Month, but all year round!Dr. Sharon O’Brien is the Director of Pediatric Cardiology at BMC, where she runs the Pediatric Preventive Cardiology Clinic, which focuses on preventing, diagnosing, and treating hypertension and high cholesterol, ensuring that children and adolescents stay healthy into adulthood.
