William G. Adams, MD, FAAP

William G. Adams, MD, FAAP, is a board-certified pediatrician, epidemiologist, and medical informatician at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and a Professor of Pediatrics at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, where he also serves as the Child Health Informatics for the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Adams also serves as the Director of Clinical Research Informatics for the Boston University Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI).

Dr. Adams received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York, and completed his pediatrics residency training via the Boston Combined Residency Program offered jointly by Boston Children's Hospital and Boston Medical Center. He subsequently completed a research fellowship in the Epidemic Intelligence Service of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).

For over two decades, Dr. Adams' research has focused on "patient-centered IT": developing and evaluating information technology (IT)-based solutions, including electronic health records (EHRs) for children, in order to improve the quality of health and healthcare for children and families. He has extensive experience in software development, including programming the first EHR at BMC and the development of multiple patient-centered telephony projects, as well in as the management of large clinical data sets for quality reporting/quality improvement and health disparities research.
